Stupid assignment

Real update to come someday.

I'm working on my mass transfer assignment. It's basically me plugging numbers into a given equation. No thought whatsoever. What's the point? I learned how to plug numbers in & type it into my calculator in HS!!! I'm doing this, using no brainpower, and have no idea what the physical meaning of any of this is!! This isn't high school...it's 3rd year engineering ffs!

2 weeks down...

G'day!

It's been a busy busy week! Last time I wrote here, it was Sunday, and I had to still finish my work report. Well, that was due on Tuesday, and handing it in made my stress level go way down. Life hasn't gotten any less busy, but the WR was stressy.

Monday night, I went to see Pearl Jam in Toronto...bloody awesome! They played for a solid 2 1/2 hours, and played just about EVERYTHING! U2 had been in town for 4 days in the week before, so Bono came out & sang a cover of Neil Young's "Keep on Rockin in the Free World" with the band! Twas awesome! PJ also did an amazing cover of Neil's Harvest Moon...I love that song!

After the show, I had to go back and finish up the WR, so I went to bed around 3am that night, and alarm went off at 8am the next day, but I only slept for about 3 hours in there! I'm turning into an insomniac lately, yet I'm not *too* tired.

Wednesday was my 22nd birthday. It was a pretty good day - well, the day part was busy: lab, Mel's after the lab, class, 3 meetings, then Bomber that night! Bomber was alright...busy though :S Some of my friends who came after I did decided not to wait in line, and others waited for 2 hours, just for me :) So that sucked a bit though, especially the people that didn't get in :S I drank about 8-9 drinks that night, so I had a good buzz, but not drunk. Which is good, since I had class the next day!

Last night started swing dance! I was super-excited about it all day, and it felt good to be dancing again! I realized how much I missed it. I'm hoping to get some work done this weekend so I can go to the Argentine Tango lesson on Sunday afternoon.

This weekend will be a busy one. I'm heading to a movie with Mike & Geoff tonight I think, then tomorrow is "Country Jamboree" at ChemBAr. I've also got assignments to do for next week, and some stuff for Scunt, which I'm helping run next weekend, and a few other things! And coop postings are starting! Busy busy time...I love it! :D

Ta ta for now...I'll try to update a bit more often! <3

It don't mean a thing...if it ain't got that swing!

Oh man...suddenly today, I'm really looking forward to starting swing dance again - starts Thursday evening! For those of you that don't know, I joined the Queens Swing Club when I worked in Kingston for 4 months last Sept-Dec, and loved it! Then I joined the UW swing club from Jan-April when I was in school. The summer brought no swing dancing, and then I was talking to a friend of mine from QSC today, and it made me want to dance again. Only 4 days! Unfortunately, for the UW Club, they have beginner lessons on Thursday, and intermediate on Tuesday. I have night class on Tuesdays, so I guess I'm doing beginner all term. Oh well...it's still great fun!

Now, also according to Norm (friend from QSC) there's a workshop in October, which he asked me if I was going to attend. I didn't know about it before now, but if I can manage it, I'd love to go. I miss some of my friends in Kingston, and I would really really like to go to a workshop there & see them all again! We'll see if I can pull it off - I doubt it, b/c it's in the middle of the term (ie midterms) but it'd be awesome if I could go.

*dances*

If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you a monkey...

Hello dear people that actually read this (although I'm thinking that's not many of you!)

How are things? Life is pretty good here. Been fun times since I last wrote on Tuesday night. Gone out 3 of the 4 nights since then. Wednesday, we met at ChemBAr (basically some friends run a "bar" at their place) and Peter was pretty drunk after having some drink where he had a shot of rye in a beer, which I don't know the name of anymore. So we walked to Bomber - having to walk over the train bridge was not cool, b/c there are big spaces b/w the wood slabs, and fear of a train coming. LOL. Good times. Bomber had a crazy lineup! So we ended up going to Mongolian Grill, for cheap pitchers - there were about 15-20 of us...good times! Pics are on Sophie's website...I haven't figured out how to put pics up on here yet! Also, Kathy & Bekah were having dinner there when we got there, so it was good to see them :) And Kathy gave me about 3/4 of a bowl of stirfry :D That was tasty! Around midnight, Mike, Geoff, Matt, Mark, Lou, Janet & I headed over to Bomber to see what it was like, and we got in within 2 minutes! The inside was empty - and the patio was pretty full, but they expanded it this year, so that was pretty nice! That night was just a lot of fun...I don't remember why, and I didn't drink *that* much (since I had to drive) but it was fun. Just a lot of good folk, and if I'm sober, other drunk people can be fun still (or funny!)

Friday night was BOT. I wasn't in the mood to go to Batch, so a bunch of us met at Sweet Dreams for bubble tea. Then we went to POETS for BOT, which kinda sucked :S We all went for the frosh video, but it wasn't ready :S Some people headed to ChemBAr afterwards, but I stuck around for a bit chatting to people. Then Neil & I decided to walk over to the Systems kegger, which was also going on, and we knew people at, but we ran into others on the way who said the police had broken it up already. Neil, TJ & I drove over to ChemBAr, and hung out there for awhile. I left around 1am, while the party was still going on (well, it was Peter, Mike, Geoff & Matt) But I was too tired to stay.

Last night, back to ChemBAr for Blaise's birthday! Good times...very typical Jill night: alcohol & photography. I drove there, I drank more than I was planning on drinking, I sobered, then I drove home. Got there around 9:30pm, played a game of Euchre (where Kevin & I beat Mike & Geoff...but it ended up 10-9, which sucked b/c Kevin & I were winning 6-0 at one point!) I was also watching the poker game for a bit, and hanging out with people. Then I went to "the other side of the house" as they were starting a board game called "PubCrawling", and they needed another player, so I "volunteered." I think they were out to get me, as they made me drink a lot during that game. All-in-all, by 1:30am or so, I'd had about 16 drinks worth of alcohol (which only cost me $16...I LOVE CHEMBAR!!) It was a fun night. I was the last to leave, since I had to sober up...I was sober by 4am, after I did Peter's dishes, so he let me leave. Very good night!

However, I'm turning sleep-deprived. No matter what time I go to bed, I seem to wake by 9:30am...so last night was not enough sleep especially! But I just can't fall back asleep :S

Anyhoo, gotta finish the work report now, since I'm going to see Pearl Jam in Toronto tomorrow night, and the WR's due Wednesday! I also will hopefully start my assignment due Thursday, since I won't be working Wednesday night (the birthday and all... :P) Ta ta for now lovelies! <3

This term's lineup...

So I've now had 2 days of school. And been to all my classes once. They seem alright - some are better than others (as per usual) But here's my thoughts on them:

ChE 35: Mass Transfer. Could be the worst of the bunch. The prof seems like he'll teach ok, but according to one of my other profs, he's difficult (but then again, another class who had him last term said he gave an easy-peasy midterm) However, he's getting up there in age, so not as enthusiastic about stuff it seems - and apparently he had really bad body odour :S

ChE 36: Chemical Reaction Engineering. This is going to be a hard course. But I'm looking forward to it, as it's pretty important for my major. The prof is young - 28 years old, and seems nice, although a bit of a drill sargeant. He's going to take 1% off everyone's exam each time someone's cell phone rings in class...but hopefully that'll teach *some* people in my class to FINALLY turn off their phones! But he seems nice, and seems like he'll teach well, and he seems approachable if we need help. Unfortunately, the fail rate for that course last time was about 30% :S

ChE 38: Electrochemistry. Prof seems really good. Course - not sure about yet. Boo to labs, but hopefully things'll work out & I can be with Mike & Geoff again :D

ChE 321: Numerical Methods. This is the 4th time I've had the prof for a course with exams (I've also had him as a lab prof before) and my marks for the previous 3 have been 52, 54 & 59. But I normally do well in math courses. So I'm not sure how this course will do. I'm hoping to kick this course's ass (and show Mario that I'm not a dumbass!)

Music 140: History of Popular Music. New prof for this course this term. Not quite as good as the old one, from what I've heard, but he should be ok. He's a little quirky, but it'll be a fun class. Tonight we learned about music from the slave trade in New Orleans back in the 19th century, as well as the initial blues from 1920s. And we get to listen to all these! So I'm excited to learn about new music :D

And that's the lineup! It'll be a difficult term, but hopefully an interesting one :)

Ridiculous!

As most of you know, I was a bridesmaid in my friend Alyssa's wedding 3 weekends ago (August 20). Since I wasn't in town all summer, except for a few weekends, nor was I in a big town, I purchased her wedding gift when I purchased her shower gift, on June 4th. The shower was on June 26, but I bought the shower gift & wedding gift early b/c I didn't know when I'd be home. And it got it over with.

For the wedding gift, I purchased some of their silverware from their registry at the Bay - her 3-piece serving set, her 4-piece serving set, and one of her 5-piece eating sets. I believe it was the 4-piece set that was not in at the time, so it was ordered. However, since it was 2 1/2 months before the wedding, the lady who helped me figured that'd be plenty of time. And yes, it was early, so I assumed that there would be no problems with me getting it on time.

Towards the end of July, I had Mom call the Bay to check the status. It wasn't in yet, but they said that they were getting an order from the company in a week and a half. So if Mom hadn't heard anything, she should call back then. I think she called, and it wasn't in. But, two days later, the Bay called, and told my parents that it was in. They were shopping in the mall that the Bay is in the day after, so they went to the Bay to pick it up for me. The people at the Bay could not find the order. It just wasn't there. This was about 2 1/2 weeks before the wedding.
About 8-9 days before the wedding, the Bay called, and said that the silverware was being shipped in from B.C., and should be there soon. Hopefully the day before the wedding.

However, we hadn't heard back from them when I returned to Waterloo for the wedding on the day before, and since I was at the mall, I went into the Bay to ask about it. It wasn't in, but they told me that it should be there soon - usually it took about 7-10 days to ship in from B.C, so they figured it'd be there early the next week. They gave me a card to put inside the card, informing Alyssa & Jesse that there was more to the gift, but it wasn't in yet.

The wedding was 3 weeks ago this past Saturday. I got a call today that the gift was FINALLY in. Only 3 weeks after the wedding, and 3 months after I ordered it. I'm still friggin annoyed by that. It's nice for the fact that I'm going out for lunch with Alyssa tomorrow, so I can give it to her, but there's no way it should have taken this long to come in!

Back to school...back to school!

Well, I've had one 2-hour class so far, and one more to go today in about 25 minutes. Mass Transfer this morning could be a bitch of a course :S But I'm determined to actually keep up this term (yea, yea, I know, I say that every term :P) Then again, I did come into this computer lab to work on the work report, and haven't done that yet. Oh well *shrugs* I'm definitely hoping to get it done today & tomorrow, so I can send to my people at OPG to read.

My other goals for the term:
- keep up with work
- keep up with other stuff (directorships)
- exercise regularly
- actually get enough sleep
- have fun!
- learn guitar in spare time (if there is any ;))

I was at Zellers yesterday, and they have TWINKIE halloween costumes! I was amused :)

I'm actually kind of excited to be back in school - I saw a bunch of people today that I haven't seen for awhile, so yay for that! It should be a good term, with good people :)

Anyhoo, to class I go soon! Ta ta for now!

Guitar!

Tee hee hee...so I bought an almost brand new guitar today...some guy in the local paper had one that he was selling, along with a case, stand, tuner, book & picks, for $200. Pretty good deal! I've wanted to learn how to play for a few years now, and when my brother-in-law was here a few weeks ago, he was teaching me some stuff. Then I was also learning a bit on Faraz's guitar last weekend. But now I have one of my own!

Heh...probably not so good with the fact that I need to finish the work report & get into the school mode. Meh. If I don't play, not like it'll go bad or anything :P

Who's hot? BROWN'S HOT!

Hey there! Did ya miss me? I know you did ;)

Sorry for the lack of update...it's been a busy week - frosh leadering! But so much fun! Today I'm off till tonight. I *should* be work reporting, but I just can't get myself too :S I wanted to finish it before school, but that's apparently not going to happen.

So school starts on Monday. Heh. I'm so not ready for that! I have no books (text or note :P) or anything else ready. I need a new backpack. Meh. I look forward to seeing people that I haven't seen this week, but classes? Meh. Although it's looking to be a fun fun term!

Dad's finally catching up with the times...WE FINALLY HAVE HIGH-SPEED AT HOME!!! :D Oh God...so much nicer than dial-up!

Woo...I figured out that I can put a protect thing on comments, so that I won't get spammed galore anymore! I recommend this to everyone (particularly Lou, who also seems to get spammed a lot!) Damn f**kin robots!

Hope everyone's doing well...talk later!

Hurricane Katrina

So I haven't said much about the hurricane, but it's horrible. My heart goes out to everyone down there who lost everything. I was watching the news at noon today, and they mentioned that there have been rapes & racism, etc. Looking at some of the pictures, I can't believe that it's in the United States, and not in Iraq or some third world country. Very very sad :(

And of course, as everyone knows, we're getting nailed with huge gas prices. Yes, it sucks, and has caused me to not go out as much, or start biking more. But, it could be a hell of a lot worse - first, they're higher in the US, and they've always been much higher in Europe. And it could be worse that you could have lived in New Orleans and lost everything.

I heard the song "New Orleans is Sinking" by the Tragically Hip on the radio the other day...it just doesn't seem appropriate right now, and I was a little upset that it was being played right now :S

For those about to rock, we salute you!

Today was not an overly exciting day - I went for a bike ride to the dentist, and other various places in uptown Waterloo (biking b/c my parents needed the cars :P) I've been thinking for a long time about buying a guitar, and think I might actually do it, and learn to play. I've wanted to learn for awhile. So I was in Waterloo Music, and saw a bunch, ranging from $100-2000! I'm looking in the cheaper range, obviously ;) But didn't buy any, b/c I wanted to look at some of them online for opinions, and also I didn't want to carry it with me on my bike :P

I was also in Adventure Outfitters, and looking at backpacks. I saw the area with all the Nalgene bottles, and saw the little ones. It reminded me of Pat - last term, in the first two weeks, she got one of the smaller ones, and we were arguing by writing during class - she claimed hers was "better b/c it was cuter" and I claimed mine was "better b/c it was sexier." Later that same day, we were in a computer lab, on separate computers with backs to each other, when she suddenly messaged me, saying "oh, btw, Pat's no longer single." (she had been dating Tim for a month, but didn't tell us) I said "Pat, your water bottle doesn't count as you no longer being single." She laughed out loud - her typical cheery Pat laugh. That made me smile in the store, but sad at the same time, for obvious reasons.

Also while biking today, I saw students starting to move in. And the beer store was busier, due to this increase in student population. It made me excited, b/c my friends are going to be coming back! So I'm more excited about school. I think one of my reasons for not looking forward to it is b/c it'll be the first term that I'm going to enter on the first day of class, and Pat won't jump up to give me a hug right away :S But life goes on I s'pose, although for some of the reasons of things happening last term, I'm not really looking forward to it. But life goes on...c'est la vie.
